Sean Delaney: Machining almost all of a jig myself
Follow Sean's weekly blog as he completes a three-year advanced manufacturing apprenticeship.
Week ending January 22
This week, I’ve been working on a jig that’s designed to hold a fence post at its bottom so that load can be applied downwards on its centre. I’m machining almost all of the required parts which is a first for me. The jig is a large clamp with the fence post sandwiched between two plates that are then bolted together, and then it sits on a plinth to bring it to height.
Although I will not be using any new skills on this job, I am looking forward to seeing the test, since the jig will be primarily my own work
