Gripple Ltd are looking for a CNC apprentice (machining technician) to complete a machining technician apprenticeship. The candidate will join the CNC manufacturing team on Gripple's 2024 Apprenticeship Scheme, starting in September.

Role & responsibilities

Based at our Hellaby Works site in Rotherham (junction 1 off the M18), the apprenticeship will be for a three-year term, with training provided both internally and externally at AMRC Training Centre (38 weeks' block release) to complete an apprenticeship in Machining Technician Standard, Level 3.

Reporting to a team leader, you will work within the operations department, learning all aspects of the role. Duties you will be trained to do will include the following:

  • Basic bench fitting
  • Milling, turning, drilling and welding
  • Programming and setting up of parts on CNC mills/lathe
  • Using/reading measuring equipment
  • Reading from technical drawings

Skills required:

  • Able to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active, with a good work ethic
  • Numerate and able to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, with a good standard of written and spoken English
  • Able to work with people at all levels

Personal qualities the candidate must have:

  • Ability to balance the demands of the learning programme and those of the working environment
  • Responsible
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work on your own initiative

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
