Symphony Group are looking for a Maintenance engineering apprentice to complete a Level 3 mechatronics maintenance technician apprenticeship and join their team. The candidate will assist with machine breakdowns, PMM’s and Facility Maintenance

Role & responsibilities:

The role involves working as part of a small team to carry out, in accordance with the relevant legislation and safe systems of work, the following duties:

  • Production plant and equipment maintenance
  • Planned and preventative maintenance
  • Day-to-day machine breakdown resolution
  • Maintaining stores & critical spare parts
  • Maintaining the Maintenance CMMS system

Skills required:

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of adapting own skills to new circumstances
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Be computer literate with experience of basic office packages

Personal qualities the candidate must have:

  • Be able to work under your own initiative
  • Be proactive and autonomous when required
  • Be willing to work overtime to cover spikes in production to aid and develop leaning opportunities
  • Be willing to take feedback and learn from different experiences
  • Be able to work a 4-shift rota, including days, afternoons & weekends
  • Be willing to learn and develop key skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced engineers
  • Be hard working with a willingness to learn

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based in Catcliffe, Sheffield, for an initial block of full-time study.  One Friday per month you will return to your workplace.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study.  The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Unless exemptions apply, year 1 apprentices are required to live full time in Sheffield for 24 weeks in university accommodation so that they can attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield. 

Future programme years apprentices are required to continue attending the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, for example, 1 day per month which will require travel and overnight hotel accommodation.

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
