S3 ID Ltd are looking for a Workshop apprentice to complete a Level 3 in Engineering Fitting apprenticeship. The purpose of this role is to be trained to carry out technical duties in the workshop. The candidate will be responsible to the Workshop Supervisor for all day-to-day duties, and responsible to the Solutions Delivery Manager for overall individual performance.

Role & responsibilities

As a Workshop Apprentice you will:

  • Attend training
  • Complete all assignments set
  • Work as part of the workshop team
  • Attend any training required
  • Liaise with your mentor

You will support the work of the Workshop Technician, and, under supervision, carry out the following tasks once you have sufficient training and knowledge:

Technical duties

  • Standard Components
    • Prepare documents, drawings and photos
    • Carry out incoming QA of components from external vendors
  • Customer Solutions
    • Build non-standard parts and components, cabinets, wiring harnesses and other project-related hardware from drawings and documents created by the Engineers as instructed by Project Managers
    • Connect and configure components, products, and sub-systems for solutions together into the solutions that will go through final acceptance testing with the end customer ensuring the connections are completed from the drawings and documents created by the Solutions Engineers
    • Ensure QA standards are met

General You will:

Skills required:

  • Ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds Knowledge & Skills
  • Numerate and able to complete Functional Skills Maths
  • Literate and able to complete Functional Skills English
  • IT literate and able to complete Functional Skills ICT
  • An interest in S3 ID products and services
  • An interest in electronics and engineering
  • An understanding of the importance of Health and Safety
  • Good practical skills
  • Good communication skills

The Workshop Apprentice is expected to assume other responsibilities and undertake other tasks as may be reasonably requested.

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
