Atlas Composite Technologies are looking for an Apprentice Composite Technician to complete a level 3 composite technician apprenticeship. This is a full-time on-site role for two Composite Technician Apprentices at Atlas Composite Technologies – one located in Ilkeston and the other at our Pride Park site. The role will involve 4 days working on tasks related to the manufacturing and assembly of carbon composite parts for Formula One, high-end automotive, aerospace and motorsport applications. The 5th day will see you partner with the University of Sheffield AMRC (attending classes online) to build up your foundational knowledge of the Composite industry.
Role & responsibilities
- Selection of appropriate techniques and procedures to produce components
- Handling of composite materials and the established health & safety procedures
- Understanding the correct storage and applications of composite materials
- Understanding of different types of resins and adhesives for bonding and assembly
- Production of carbon fibre mould tools and preparation procedures
- Manufacturing of individual components across a range of sectors
- Reading and understanding of technical drawings and procedure manuals
- Laminating of geometrically-complex components and assembly techniques

Employer description:
Atlas Composite Technologies is an AS9100 accredited SME, specialising in the manufacture of composite components and tools for a variety of sectors, including Aerospace, Formula One Motorsport, Automotive and more. The head office is based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and a second site is located within Pride Park, Derby.
Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

This role requires Grade 5 or above in Maths, English and Science.
Qualification Requirements:
Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements
You will need both of the following:
- GCSE English language C or 4 or above
- GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
