Robson Handling Technology Limited are looking for an Apprentice Design Engineer to complete a Level 3 Engineering & Manufacturing Support Technician apprenticeship to join their team. The successful candidate will spend the first 24-months of the role seconded to various departments within the business gaining a full working knowledge of how our engineering department works and the processes and procedures within the company. This will include site visits, preassembly in our workshop and gaining valuable knowledge of what is required to produce accurate designs for our wide range of mechanical handling projects.

Role & responsibilities:

Engineering Design is a very highly skilled technical role that requires you to work within a multidisciplinary design team, designing a wide range of mechanical installations. Our Apprenticeship Programme will acquire you with new skills and gain knowledge of the following:
  • Produce technical drawings, models and designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and various other design programmes
  • Visiting sites and carrying out detailed site surveys
  • Understand the importance of maintenance of existing equipment and manufacture of new parts when required
  • Problem solving and fault finding
  • Create parts lists for conveyor systems
  • Assist in the production of support and maintenance documents
  • Liaise with our works production team to assist with conveyor assembly
  • Liaise with our site installation team to give installation support
  • Importance of health and safety and familiarisation with industry guidelines and regulations

Skills required:

  • Listening Skills
  • IT literate
  • Familiar with the basics of CAD

Personal qualities the candidate must have:

  • Enthusiasm and interest in engineering
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
