Chesterfield Special Cylinders Limited are looking for an Apprentice Machinist to complete a Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship and join their team.

Role & responsibilities:

As an apprentice machinist, the candidate will be learning to manufacture seamless steel cylinders and cylinder components on a variety of CNC & Manual machines, including DMG NLX CNC Lathe, DMG DMF CNC Mill, XYZ CNC lathe as well as varies manual lathes and milling machines, whilst undergoing your training which is a mixture of full time at the AMRC training centre, followed by day release and on-the-job training.

Once qualified, the candidate will operate the above machines while performing in-process inspection checks, producing high-quality products in a safe and controlled manner, meeting all quality specifications whilst satisfying productivity requirements and in compliance with engineering drawings and associated specifications. Ensure that equipment is maintained, relevant records are up to date and that all processes work effectively to ensure that the business can fulfil its aims.

  • Good levels of numeracy, literacy and computer skills required to conduct the job

  • Good attention to detail

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
