Job description:
Altek Limited are looking for a Hydraulic, electrical and mechanical fitter apprentice to complete a Level 3 Engineering Fitter apprenticeship and join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to learn, develop and work with both Altek and AMRC to become a competent CNC Machinist within the heavy engineering manufacturing sector.
Learning the fundamentals of engineering theory and manufacturing processes, the candidate will gain experience in using the latest computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools to cut, drill and finish components to a very high standard.
Role & responsibilities:
- Producing components using hand fitting techniques
- Manual techniques (turning and milling)
- Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
- Preparing and proving CNC machine tool programs
- Preparing and using CNC machines (turning and milling)
Skills required:
- Comfortable and a basic understanding of computers/computerised systems
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in work
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Good time management skills
Personal qualities the candidate must have:
- A keen attention to detail being able to demonstrate an understanding of detail and tolerances
- A keen interest in Mechanical Engineering
- Openness and willingness to foster an environment of trust
- Willingness to assist
Employer description:
Altek Europe is a manufacturer and supplier of heavy plant to the aluminium recycling industry. Altek provide an end-to-end solution for reclaiming more aluminium from the recycling process and also minimising and managing waste in the form of Electro Magnetic Stirrers, Dross Presses, Rotary Furnaces, Ingot Casting Lines and Alusalt (Salt Slag) processing plants.
Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements
You will need both of the following:
- GCSE English language C or 4 or above
- GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
