Job description:

Hydramatic Source and Supply Ltd (HSS Ltd) are looking for an Engineering fitter apprentice to complete a Level 3 Engineering Fitter apprenticeship. The candidate will learn, understand and carry out the assembly of products / sub-assemblies in line with project requirements (drawing specifications / time scales). This will involve working with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical assemblies / parts.

This role also includes the need to understand and confirm that the finished product quality meets project requirements prior to release for final inspection, assisting with inspection & stores requirements when needed.

The apprentice will raise and communicate all product issues with the Operations manager (OM)/Project manager (PM), as well as work in a professional and courteous manner with all members of staff and stakeholders.

Role & responsibilities

  • Product Assembly – Carry out the assembly or disassembly of all product requirements as allocated, in line with the specification and timescales issued
  • Finished Product Conformality – Carry out final testing of the assembled product prior to release for Final Acceptance Testing
  • Concerns Management – Ensure that all product and process issues are raised, assist with the investigation and implementation of suitable containment action, and where applicable, work with other staff to implement corrective action
  • Assembly Tooling – Ensure assembly tooling remains fit for purpose, report any defects to the OM/PM, and assist with the calibration of systems when required
  • Health & Safety – Ensure company health & safety requirements are followed and ensure assembly work areas remain safe & tidy, assist with the correct segregation / handling and disposal of waste material

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
