Job description:
Homefire Group are looking for a site service apprentice to complete a level 3 mechatronics maintenance technician apprenticeship. Working within Homefire Group, the site service apprentice will join our national distribution centre in based in Worksop.
Role & responsibilities:
Training, instruction and personal development will form the foundations for an individual to become a productive member of the engineering/site services team.
The following is a summary of the core principles and behaviours expected and the job specific knowledge and skills associated with being an engineering/site services operative.
General Core Skills
- Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations, environmental compliance procedures and systems and other relevant guidelines
- Identify and deal appropriately with any risks, hazards, hazardous situations and problems that may occur within the engineering environment within the limits of their responsibility

- Complete appropriate documentation accurately, efficiently and legibly using the correct terminology where required
- Obtain and follow the correct documentation, specifications and work instructions in accordance with time constraints and the roles and responsibilities identified for the engineering activities, extracting the necessary data/information from specification and related documentation
- Select and use appropriate tools, equipment and materials to carry out the engineering operation
- Deal appropriately with any problems that may occur within the manufacturing environment within the limits of their responsibility

Knowledge
- Basic handling, manual and mechanical equipment
- Use and checking of relevant tools and specific engineering equipment
- Hot works, welding and cutting
- Working at height and enclosed spaces including use of associated access and safety equipment

- Maintenance planning
- Diagnostic and fault finding techniques
- Specific safe working practices, maintenance procedures and environmental regulations that need to be observed

Specific Skills
- Carry out fault location on appropriate equipment using suitable maintenance diagnostic techniques
- Carry out maintenance activities in line with work instructions
- Carry out tests on the maintained equipment in accordance with test schedule/defined test procedures
- Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment to service by replacing or repairing components
- Carry out quality checks during and after mechanical manufacturing operations
- Wire and terminate different types of cabling
- Test a range of electrical components
- Fabricate materials using the appropriate methods and techniques
- Join materials using the appropriate methods and techniques
Skills required:

Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements
You will need both of the following:
- GCSE English language C or 4 or above
- GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
