AvantiGas Limited are looking for a Technical Engineer Apprentice to complete a level 3 Engineering & Manufacturing Support Technician apprenticeship. The primary function of this role is to form an integral part of the AvantiGas CES Technical Team, providing support to both internal and external customers on matters such as, but not limited to: technical governance, design support & approval, equipment specification and training in line with UGII, AvantiGas and external industry standards.
The candidate will provide a customer-focussed support function to the wider business, linking in with key departments to ensure the business can meet its objectives.
Role & responsibilities
- Complete initial professional development, composed of a level 3 apprenticeship, in-house company training & development and other associated training. Eventually leading to EngTech registration with one of the Engineering Councils PEIs (Professional Engineering Institutions)
- As part of the wider CES technical function, become competent in the following areas:
- Follow and abide by all UGII/AGL procedures and policies relating to the Engineering Document Management System (EDMS)
- Participate in the review process of defined EDMS documents & drawings – including ongoing maintenance
- Ensure initial and ongoing compliance to company and industry guidance, standards, processes, and legislation
- Provide expert support relating to incident investigations, quality-improvement reports and emergency situations, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure the provision of technical advice to internal and external customers on safety, product knowledge, product storage, distribution systems and system design in-line with regulations and industry standards / Codes of Practice for domestic, commercial and AvantiGas sites, within area of expertise
- Provide support within and external to the department to include, but not limited to: apprentice/trainee/junior engineers & technicians, CE and commercial/marketing teams
- Produce technical drawings (primarily using Autodesk AutoCAD), including P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), GA’s (General Arrangements) of plant, pipework/plant isometrics and plant layouts or components
- Complete calculations for the above
- Provide material specifications and produce material lists for the above
- Continued professional development to maintain and enhance professional competencies in line with professional registration commitments
- Wider Technical Department administration duties and support as required

Competencies to be developed during role:
- Competencies A-E of the Engineering Council’s UK-SPEC (UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence) at EngTech level
- Knowledge of LPG and associated industry
- Knowledge of LPG vessel design, refurbishment and maintenance
- Knowledge of regulations and industry standards / Codes of Practice
- Understanding of high-hazard industrial sites (subject to COMAH and other legislation)
- Ability to produce technical drawings and calculations, both by hand and using computer software
- Knowledge of material specifications and to produce material lists

Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

You will need both of the following:
- GCSE English language C or 4 or above
- GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
