Composites technician
These applications include, but aren't limited to, aerospace, automotive, construction, medical, motorsport, oil and gas, rail, and renewables industries. Composites technicians provide specialised knowledge and skills that support manufacturing programmes and projects and may be deployed in the areas of design, tooling, moulding, lay-up, curing, machining, inspection, testing, repair and material production.

What will I study on this apprenticeship standard?
Units could include:
- Health & Safety Environmental and sustainability regulations
- Composite material definitions
- Types of reinforcement/matrix materials
- Pre processing activities (e.g mould tool preparation)
- Composite manufacturing processes
- Practical hand lay up techniques
- Practical automated lay up techniques
- Tooling and product design
- Quality assurance procedure
- Composites defect identification
What jobs will I be trained for once I have finished this apprenticeship?
This apprenticeship will train you for a wide range of roles, such as composites laminator, composites materials technician, composites technician, composites tooling technician.
Advanced apprenticeship entry requirements:
You will need both of the following:
- GCSE English language C or 4 or above
- GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
