Finalists for the ‘NIKKEN’ HNC Achiever of the Year Award

Jordan David Clayton – Polypipe
I work as an apprentice toolmaker, stripping and servicing mould tools; making new components for injection mould tools; using a variety of machines such as EDM, millers, lathes and surface grinders; and have been involved in projects for Polypipe such as the nine-in-one seal inserter project.

The best bits of my time at the AMRC Training Centre have been learning and developing my skills through the shop floor; meeting a good set of people that have become friends; and completing both my NVQ and BTEC to a high standard.

Looking to the future, I want to broaden my knowledge of injection moulding and develop as much as possible in the industry. I would also like to educate and train future apprentices and work my way up to a managerial position within Polypipe.

Daniel Latham – Laing O’Rourke
As an apprentice maintenance technician, I undertake planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, and proactive maintenance, alongside project work. This includes servicing plant machinery and equipment, fault finding and installation.

I have greatly enjoyed meeting and learning from the apprentices and trainers at the AMRC Training Centre in both aspects of education and personal development. To finish my Level 3 apprenticeship is one of the bigger highlights as I felt I had accomplished something to a high level. My HNC has been challenging but I feel the work I have submitted has been some of the best I have done academically.

I want to become an integral part of the maintenance team here and I would then like to progress to team leader. After that, I want to move into management and become well respected as a fair and knowledgeable person.
