The AMRC Training Centre has recently been awarded a £90,000 contract by Hull and Humberside Local Enterprise Partnership to upskill and develop welding tutors from across 5 colleges in the region.

Whilst it is well know that there is a national shortage of skilled welders in the UK, the issue is particular prevalent in the Hull and Humberside region.  The region has recently attracted significant inward investment from the offshore wind and renewables sector, where it is estimated that 800 welders will be sought by new investors. With the average age of a welder in the region of 58, it is imperative that local colleges develop the necessary skills to train the next generation of welders.

Graham Small, CPD training manager at the AMRC Training Centre said:

“We are delighted that the strong technical expertise, industrial focus and professional standing of the AMRC Training Centre have been recognised by the Hull and Humber Local Enterprise Partnership It is most encouraging that other regions are now seeking advice from the AMRC as a recognised centre of expertise in engineering and metals processing.”
