The AMRC Training Centre is aware that there is a yellow weather warning for snow and ice overnight. We are monitoring the situation and planning to give an update at 7am tomorrow morning (November 19).

The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre will be holding its annual Make, Create, Innovate evening on Tuesday 3 November 2015, between 4.30pm - 7.30pm.

This free event is for students, parents and teachers to come along and see what opportunities for study and careers there are in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

The event will be staffed with industry-experts, AMRC trainers and current apprentices; on hand to answer any questions about whats involved with an employed-status apprenticeship and what kind of careers are on offer.

There will be plenty to see and do, with the opportunity to test out AMRC robots, have a go at 3D printing, build your own gadgets and much more!

Brendan Pattison, 16, from Barnsley is a new AMRC apprentice employed by Castings Technology International Ltd. Brendan was inspired to apply for a place at the Training Centre after attending last years event:

“I have always been interested in engineering through my time working as a kart mechanic and racing with South Yorkshire Kart Club, so I had considered studying engineering at college and university.

“I didnt know anything about the Training Centre until last years event. There were loads of people to talk to and I ended up meeting an apprentice who was employed by Casting Technology International, he told me all about the work they do and what his apprenticeship involved.

“The practical nature of it really appealed to me and it sounded a great opportunity. Its a great hands-on alternative to the traditional university route and I would recommend anyone interested in engineering to consider an apprenticeship.”

Kerry Featherstone, Operations Manager at the AMRC Training Centre invites anyone interested to come along to the event:

“If want to make the most of your passion for science, technology or mathematics, with the opportunity to gain degree level qualifications without ending up in debt, we can help you make decisions that will lead to an exciting future in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

“With so many companies moving into South Yorkshire searching for a skilled workforce and highly skilled and qualified engineers in global demand, theres never been a better time to consider a career in in the STEM industries.”

Anyone is welcome to attend, book your free place by contacting Chloe Lidster on c.lidster@amrc.co.uk or calling 0114 222 6661.
