The AMRC Training Centre had heard from some employers that they had found difficulty in getting training for their staff on how to be an effective mentor. Working with those very employers, the centre put together a new course and tentatively put out some feelers to gauge demand. The places have been flying off the shelf, and in just one month, have sold out the next four courses. Thats 35 people from 16 different companies.

The AMRC Training Centre is now training over 150 apprentices, and quite rightly employers want to do their best to ensure that their own teams can help support and develop their own staff.

Alison Bettac, director of training says “I know from experience that successful mentorship works in two ways. The mentor benefits from helping see their apprentice grow and develop and being instrumental in that success. The mentee benefits from having someone they trust and respect to go to when they need support.  Im not surprised by how successful our new course has been, this has been a neglected area of training in manufacturing and engineering for a long time. Im really looking forward to see how the employers benefit from their staffs new skills”.
