Week ending December 4

This week I have been working on a set of box section supports for a repeat test for McLaren Automotive. It was a simple job; I just had to saw the sections into their required sizes then drill 22 millimetre through holes in the required spots. The only part of the job that I found difficult was centering such large pieces in the vice, since I had to simultaneously try to use the crane and vice handle all while trying to manoeuvre the pieces into a square and central position beneath the drill. Meanwhile, on my day release at the AMRC Training Centre, I have been learning how to use the Solidworks CAD software. I was surprised by how user-friendly it is and how easily you can learn to create complex designs in such a short space of time.
