Training Centre apprentices measured up for success

The AMRC Training Centres pioneering advanced apprenticeship scheme, developed by the University of Sheffield, has been shortlisted for a prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Award for Widening Participation Initiative of the Year.

Now in their tenth year, The Times Higher Education Awards celebrates the extraordinary things that are going on in our universities and colleges.The awards recognise everything from research to widening participation and teaching to entrepreneurship.

The awards evening will take place on Thursday 27 November, at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Two apprentices, Russell Fox and Edward Allen, have been chosen to represent the AMRC Training Centre at the awards. The University of Sheffield Vice Chancellor, Sir Keith Burnett, has kindly provided money for the apprentices to purchase new suits for the black tie occasion.  

Alison Bettac, director of training said: “We are really proud to be nominated for this award and our apprentices are our ambassadors who proactively demonstrate the success of the AMRC Training Centre, which is an important part of the University of Sheffield. As our ambassadors, we like them to look the part when representing us out in the public eye and it also helps build their confidence; therefore we are proud to support them.”
