Finalists for the ‘MTA’ Technical Support Apprentice of the Year Award

Niall Dawson – Pryor Marking Technology
My role as mechanical design engineer requires assessing potential custom from sales, evaluating the possibility of being able to complete a project and providing a technical quote back to the sales team. Once a job is won, I design the machine and oversee assembly, completing any re-work that may arise.
My highlights with the AMRC Training Centre have been creating lasting relationships with other apprentices, along with completing my apprenticeship to the highest standard and developing myself as a person through gaining more confidence and being able to lead projects and take ownership of my work.
My aspirations are to go as high as possible within Pryor and I hope to progress and develop my leadership skills so that in the future I can take on more responsibility and push for a management role.

Emma Sisman – Niftylift
As a quality assurance engineer I begin each day by attending a stakeholder meeting in my responsible areas in order to highlight any quality issues which have arisen, and then I focus on investigating and resolving these issues through implementation of Automotive Core Tools to create and put preventative actions in place. I also carry out weld inspections when needed.
Whilst being at the AMRC Training Centre, I have met a variety of different people with a wide range of knowledge and skills, and have learned new skills and techniques which will help with my job, as well as the development of knowledge within my field of work.
From completing my apprenticeship, I have established that my career aspirations are to become fully qualified with as many qualifications as possible in order to aid my job, and progress within my department and be able to apply these skills I have learned.

Will Smith – Radius Aerospace
My current role is business improvement technician apprentice. My day-to-day activities include managing and assisting with various project work for area re-layouts; conducting time studies on processes; running the site ‘6S’ scheme to identify problems with areas; and running the site kaizen process to implement small but significant improvements and changes onto the shop floor.
I have had lots of highlights at the AMRC Training Centre, but I would say the best thing was the people who I met whilst there. The first six months when we were there full time was thoroughly enjoyable and I learned a lot of new things that I don’t think I would have done had I chosen to take a different route to an apprenticeship.
I aspire to work my way up in the field that I am in to eventually become a senior manager or even have my own business.
