Niftylift Limited are looking for an Apprentice CNC Machinist to complete a Level 3 Machinist apprenticeship and join their team. The candidate will operate CNC Machining centres to achieve required quality and at the required output. They will provide feedback and ideas for improving the process and identifying & reporting reasons for any delays, failure to achieve efficiency targets and quality concerns. The candidate will follow planned daily targets to ensure the correct mix of work is completed. They will be expected to maintain/ improve Kanban stock levels and ensure no delays occur within our finishing Value Stream and follow company procedures to optimise the process and reduce waste/ non-value added activities. In addition, the candidate will ensure no faults are passed forward to the next process, while highlighting any concerns to the Team Leader and following the internal non-conformance (Concern Note) procedure.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Operate horizontal twin pallet machining centres to machine large fabrications
  • Make necessary adjustments to the Machining parameters/ off sets etc. as with any repeat production requirements (not programme changes)
  • Make tool changes where required, using tool setting equipment and selection of correct cutting tips and adjustments
  • Ability to use gauges and measuring equipment for inspection purposes
  • Carry out process operations in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, Quality in process inspection and Pre-delivery Inspection
  • Complete administration required for updating production control systems for job completion and inventory accuracy
  • Report all machining defects through our internal Concern Note process, to enable containment, correction and the review of root causes to implement preventative action
  • Carry out daily, weekly and monthly Operator Planned Maintenance Tasks
  • Ensure 5S standards are maintained daily and continuously improved in line with monthly audit actions
  • Be a committed team player with emphasis on flexibility, productivity and be focused continuous improvement
  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation, this may include training and mentoring colleagues

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
