Quartzelec Limited are looking for an Apprentice Fitter to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship to join their team within the Grimsby Business Unit.

As a multi-disciplined service provider, we support local industry and infrastructure from our facility in Grimsby with a range of unique rotating machine services, with specialist support available for the Oil and Gas, Marine and Renewables, Water markets.  The activities undertaken by our Mechanical Fitting department is both diverse and challenging as it covers all aspects of the manufacture, repair & refurbishment of machines which are often highly complex.

The role will offer the individual to get involved in all aspects of mechanical engineering processes within the rotating machines industry; Machine shop activities, balancing and mechanical fitting. These are all areas in which you will gain experience and find your place.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Repair and refurbishment of mechanical assemblies
  • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
  • Preparing and using milling machines
  • Dynamic balancing and laser alignments
  • Work with Grimsby College external assessor to produce workplace assessment training plans
  • Attend lectures, practical workshops and visits as per training provider learning plan

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based in Catcliffe, Sheffield, for an initial block of full-time study.  One Friday per month you will return to your workplace.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study.  The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Advanced apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
