Apprentices cook up a barbecue
As part of their Technical Support Apprenticeship, a group of AMRC Training Centre apprentices have produced a fully functioning barbecue. The team managed the full production process themselves, coming up with the initial idea, developing the design and plans, through to producing the finished product. The barbecue was made up of multiple parts, all machined separately by the apprentices, that then had to be intricately welded together.
Simon Wood, welding and fabrication trainer, was extremely impressed with how the project encouraged team work amongst the apprentices, saying: This gave the team a great insight in to working as part of a production team which will be hugely beneficial when they go back in to industry. The project has proven so successful that Simon is now looking to introduce this as a core part of the welding programme. This is great news for AMRC staff who are all now putting orders in for their own barbecues!
All the team enjoyed working on the project, with one of the team members Tom Hinchliffe saying: This is the most fun we have had so far in our apprenticeships, everyone enjoys a barbecue so we could all get behind the project. They are even looking at developing their plans further to include adapting the barbecues to include a smoke chimney.
