William Lee Limited are looking for a CAD/Estimator Apprentice to complete a Level 3 Engineering & Manufacturing Support Technician apprenticeship.
This role offers the opportunity to develop skills in computer-aided design (CAD), technical drawing interpretation, costing, and manufacturing processes within a busy foundry producing iron castings for a diverse range of customers.
Work closely with the estimating, engineering, production, and sales teams to support the quotation process, create and amend CAD drawings, and assist in determining manufacturing costs for customer enquiries.
Role & responsibilities:
- Create, modify, and maintain CAD drawings and models from customer specifications and requirements
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer enquiries
- Assist in preparing quotations for cast iron components and assemblies
- Estimate material, pattern, machining, labour, and production costs for customer projects
- Calculate casting weights and review manufacturing feasibility
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to obtain technical information
- Support the development and maintenance of cost databases and estimating records
- Assist with new product introduction and development activities
- Produce technical documentation, reports, and records accurately
- Learn and apply foundry manufacturing processes, including moulding, melting, casting, fettling, and machining operations
- Ensure compliance with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and lean manufacturing initiatives

Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:
Advanced apprenticeships entry requirements
You will need both of the following:
- GCSE English language C or 4 or above
- GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
