Tinsley Bridge Group Limited are looking for a CNC Machining/Grinding Apprentice to complete a Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship.

A CNC Machining/Grinding Apprentice plays a vital role in the manufacturing and production of various components.

This position involves working with various types of metal and process equipment to create parts and assembled products according to engineering specifications and project requirements. Machinist/ Grinders use a variety of tools and techniques, including band saws, VMC’s, line and segmental grinders to produce high-quality products. As an apprentice, you will be learning all aspects of the role, along with block/day release to the AMRC Training Centre. Your skills will increase throughout the apprenticeship to grow into a full time Machinist/Grinder.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Operation of CNC vertical milling/manual and NC grinding machines to a high-standard of quality and productivity
  • Adherence to company Health and Safety Policy and SOP’s
  • Operate all workshop equipment safely and effectively
  • Maintenance of shop floor housekeeping standards
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn at all times in line with site and task requirements
  • Follow SOP procedures and company quality standards where applicable
  • Use measuring equipment and basic mathematical skills to ensure accuracy of work

Principle learning:

  • Verify drawings and specifications prior to commencing machining/grinding tasks
  • Develop competency in machining processes: vertical three and four axis machining, end, line and segmental grinding
  • Carry out machining/grinding work, interpreting and working from engineering drawings
  • Set up and operate workshop machinery such as band saws, VMC’s, line and segmental grinding machines plus assemble metal components to required standards and tolerances
  • Work to tight tolerances and ensure dimensional accuracy throughout manufacture stages
  • Manufacture jigs and fixtures where required in process set ups
  • Measure and inspect components using hand/Trimos and CMM measuring equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness of tools, equipment, and work areas
  • Carry out all tasks in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude towards tasks and teamwork

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
