Training Centre staff will be out on the road this week looking for the engineers of the future.

Trainers will take the MANTRA, a specially modified HGV packed with the latest machinery and simulators, to Bolsover School in Derbyshire on Tuesday and to the Big Ideas Big Ambitions further education event in Retford on Wednesday.

The truck is able to demonstrate manufacturing and assembly line technology of the future and help inspire young people to take up careers in engineering.

Pupils will get the chance to find out which of them is the best potential welder, in a competition using virtual reality welding equipment and try their hand on the 3D wall.

Wendy Miller – AMRC Training Centre trainer and Learning and Teaching Lead said: “National Apprenticeship Week provides us with the ideal opportunity to tell young people about the exciting and varied careers that are available in engineering and how they can earn while they learn.

“We hope the week will inspire many more young people to consider their future in the engineering sector.”

Following on from National Apprenticeship Week, Make, Create, Innovate returns to the Training Centre on Wednesday, 15 March 2017.

The event, on from 5pm – 8pm, is aimed at young people interested in starting a career in engineering or any other STEM-related industry,
