Prove your engineering future with Warburtons apprenticeship
The UK’s largest bakery brand, Warburtons, has chosen the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre as its new apprenticeship supplier as it looks to find and support the next generation of engineers.
With four exciting degree level apprenticeship vacancies in software and controls engineering up for grabs, you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of the family-owned British baking firm, which was founded by Thomas and Ellen Warburton in 1876. Each apprentice will be based in one of Warburtons’ bakeries throughout the UK: Burnley, Bristol, Enfield and Wednesbury.
Amanda McDonald, resourcing partner for engineering and senior hires at Warburtons, said the company is thrilled to partner with the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre.
She added: “This exciting collaboration reflects our commitment to innovation and supporting the next generation of engineers.
“Students joining this apprenticeship can look forward to a hands-on learning experience utilising the AMRC Training Centre’s world-class facilities and cutting-edge technology, combined with on-site experience at one of our highly automated bakeries.
“It’s a unique opportunity to kickstart a rewarding career in engineering, developing the skills and expertise to excel. We can’t wait to welcome our talented apprentices of 2025, who share our passion for technology and excellence.”
Successful applicants will join a structured four-year apprenticeship programme, with a mixture of on-the-job training with their own Warburtons mentor and the AMRC Training Centre.
The apprenticeship will equip each student to become a software and controls engineer, through a varied programme that involves supporting the development, maintenance and improvement of industrial control systems (ICS) and operational technology (OT).
At the end of the four years, apprentices will be ready to start their career as a qualified software and controls engineer with Warburtons, opening the door to many more opportunities, on site or in head office.
Dan Swift, business development executive at the AMRC Training Centre, welcomed the new partnership, adding: “Over the past couple of years, we have seen several well known employer brands within the food and drink sector on-board with the AMRC Training Centre.
“Adding such an established brand name as Warburtons bakery to that employer partner group is absolutely fantastic.”
