Local residents show interest in new Training Centre

The Mantra lorry, the AMRCs travelling showcase for advanced engineering, was on display at Morrisons, Catcliffe to promote the upcoming state-of-the-art Training Centre to members of the local community. Representatives from building contractors Wilmott Dixon and Bond Bryan Architects were on hand, alongside members of the Training Centre team, to answer questions from residents about the new centre and the benefits it will bring to the area.

Steve Walker, Senior Building Engineer at Wilmot Dixon said “It is a proud achievement to work with The University of Sheffield and the AMRC in what is the next step forward for engineering in South Yorkshire.”  Daniel Cooper, Marketing Coordinator at the AMRC spoke to one resident, a retired engineer, who said “this was just what the area needed.”

The on board facilities including a 3D virtual reality centre and a fully operational Mori Seiki mill-turn machine enabled residents to get a taste of modern manufacturing and engineering. Another visitor to Mantra, Nicola Mason, was suitably impressed by the demonstration, “it was really great, all the advanced tooling and 3D engineering is fantastic.”

Mantras next appearance will be at the Royal International Air show, Fairford, on 20-21 July.
